Job summary

Jacobs is seeking an Environmental Permitting Professional to support planning, permitting, and delivery of electric transmission projects. You will lead permit applications, develop strategies, and coordinate with engineering, environmental, regulatory, and legal teams.

The role requires 4–8 years of relevant experience, strong regulatory interpretation, and effective stakeholder engagement. A hybrid work model is offered with travel up to 20% as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental planning, natural resources, geology, biology, engineering, planning, public policy, or a related field.
  • 4–8 years of progressive environmental consulting, regulatory, planning, engineering, construction, or infrastructure experience.
  • Demonstrated professional experience leading environmental permitting, regulatory compliance, environmental review, and linear infrastructure project delivery.
  • Advanced ability to interpret complex regulations, permit conditions, technical studies, and agency correspondence.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience presenting to agencies, project leadership, or public stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage complex project priorities, schedules, documentation, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and common project‑documentation tools.
  • Ability and willingness to participate in site visits, field activities, agency meetings, and public events.

Responsibilities

  • Lead preparation and submission of complex federal, state, and local environmental permit applications.
  • Develop permitting strategies, schedules, agency outreach plans, and risk‑management approaches.
  • Independently coordinate consultants producing environmental studies, field assessments, and application materials.
  • Manage agency comments, information requests, permit revisions, commitments, and approval tracking.
  • Facilitate coordination among engineering, land, construction, environmental, legal, external affairs, and project‑management teams.
  • Participate in negotiations and technical discussions with regulators, municipalities, and external stakeholders.
  • Review technical work products for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and regulatory alignment.
  • Mentor junior analysts and provide practical guidance on permitting procedures, technical requirements, and project delivery.
  • Report permitting status, risks, opportunities, constraints, and schedule impacts to project leadership.
  • Promote safe work practices and integrate health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements into all project activities.
