Eurofins Environment Testing (USA) in California seeks a Laboratory Director to lead our team, ensure an operating margin, meet annual budgets, and oversee daily laboratory operations to efficiently meet client needs while upholding quality and production objectives.

The role involves supervising personnel, ensuring regulatory compliance, and providing leadership to support client services, sales, and other departments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a scientific field.
• 7+ years environmental lab management experience.
• Proven leadership and team-building skills.
• Experience with lab operations and services.
• Experience managing 20+ scientists and technicians.
• Proven P&L responsibility.
• Expertise in VOC analysis under SW846 or EPA TO method guidelines.
• Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and delegation abilities.
• Ability to handle contracts and negotiations.
• Proficiency in GCMS techniques and instrumentation.
• Track record of improving laboratory efficiency and profitability.
• Knowledge of federal and state employment laws.
• Experience leading quality system improvements (audits, CAPA).
• Ability to engage with key clients on technical/business solutions.
• Leadership in downsizing and growth scenarios.
• Excellent communication, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively; adaptable.
• Willingness to travel occasionally to other laboratory locations.
• Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• Proficiency in English (read/write/speak).

Responsabilités

• Provide leadership for laboratory operations, ensuring efficiency, quality, compliance, and financial performance.
• Drive revenue growth and profitability while meeting turnaround times, quality, and customer service objectives.
• Collaborate with Laboratory Managers, Group Leaders, and the Business Unit Manager to prioritize initiatives and achieve KPIs and budgets.
• Oversee implementation of new technologies, methods, and systems into production to support growth and regulatory requirements.
• Lead and support the Project Management team, developing client relationships and retention strategies.
• Maintain strong customer relationships and support high-level client negotiations with technical and operational insight.
• Foster a high-performing laboratory culture emphasizing teamwork, safety, and development.
• Coordinate staff development, coaching, training, performance management, and succession planning with HR.
• Conduct performance appraisals and manage compensation adjustments per performance and budget.
• Coach and mentor leaders to strengthen leadership capability and operational effectiveness.
• Establish and monitor productivity, quality, and safety metrics; implement contingency plans.
• Lead health, safety, quality, ethics, and compliance initiatives and ensure policy adherence.
• Collaborate with QA to develop SOPs and audit-ready processes across departments.
• Partner with the Business Unit Manager to review financial performance and cost controls.
• Provide monthly performance reports and identify improvement opportunities.
• Participate in workforce planning, recruitment, and interviewing to meet current and future needs.
• Communicate company initiatives and goals clearly to employees to ensure engagement.
• Perform other duties and special projects to support objectives.
