Job summary

A.O. Smith is seeking a Lab Analyst to prepare and analyze environmental samples in accordance with EPA regulations, QA programs, and SOPs.

You will perform sample preparation, conduct chemical analyses with GC, GC/MS, ICP, AA, and prepare calibration solutions to ensure accurate instrument performance. The role emphasizes precision in data recording, adherence to GLP, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

• Associates or Bachelors degree preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of laboratory experience.
• Basic mathematical and data analysis skills, including use of formulas and calculations.
• Ability to manage workload within time and quality constraints.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data recording.
• Ability to work independently and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to collaborate within a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform sample preparation using standard techniques, including acidification, digestion, aliquoting, and weighing.
• Conduct chemical analyses using approved laboratory methods and instrumentation.
• Prepare reagents, standards, and calibration solutions to support accurate instrument performance.
• Calculate, record, and report analytical data, including documenting any irregularities or deviations.
• Perform routine instrument maintenance and troubleshooting as needed.
• Maintain compliance with QA/QC standards, SOPs, and regulatory requirements.
• Follow Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) in all aspects of work.
• Maintain a clean, organized laboratory environment and workspace upkeep.
• Assist in operation and development of technical expertise in GC, GC/MS, Purge and Trap, AA, ICP, and data systems.
• Perform routine laboratory tasks under supervision using established procedures.
• Complete all work in a safe, efficient, and timely manner.
• Support additional laboratory duties as assigned.
