Job summary

Rayonier is seeking a Summer 2027 Environmental Intern to assist the Environmental Team with compliance to corporate policies and applicable laws. You will document, monitor, and maintain records of environmental performance and participate in audits and site inspections.

Interns will be sophomores to grads; the program runs about 10–12 weeks from late May to early August. Housing assistance may be available, and a taxable housing allowance of up to $3,000 will be paid in three installments.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled or recent graduate expected to pursue a degree in Environmental Science, Business, Engineering, or related field.
• Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; ability to learn new software quickly.
• Ability to communicate clearly with mill personnel and environmental regulators.
• Ability to provide training on environmental regulations, rules, manuals, and policies.

Job description

Rayonier is seeking an Intern to assist the Environmental Team in complying with Corporate Environmental Policies and with all Federal, State, Tribal, and Local environmental laws, regulations, and permit requirements. Document, monitor, and maintain all environmental compliance performance records in accordance with the Corporate Policies and applicable regulatory requirements. Other duties as assigned. Rayonier is seeking sophomore-, junior-, senior-, and graduate-level students for our Summer 2027 internship. Positions are expected to begin in late May and continue through early August for approximately 10 to 12 weeks.

Interns can accrue overtime and may be eligible for housing assistance. Taxable housing expense allowance payments will be paid in three installments for a total of $3,000.00. Interns are also eligible for a safety boot reimbursement.

The hourly rate for this position is: Sophomore: $20, Junior: $22, Senior: $24, Grad: $25

Job Duties

Compliance

• Perform periodic testing, monitoring, and inspections related to compliance activities.
• Communicate required regulatory requirements affecting site operations.
• Collect and record data necessary to demonstrate compliance with air and water permits.
• Perform inspections of water discharges, stormwater outfalls, air emission units, and pollution control equipment.
• Conduct sampling and analysis of water samples as required in discharge permits.

Administrative

• Maintain facility environmental files.
• Ensure recordkeeping requirements are met as required for permitted activities.
• Respond to SPCC spills as necessary.
• Participate in environmental audits as necessary.
• Inspect and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices to ensure compliance with regulations.

Safety

• Participate in the facility’s safety process as a resource and active member of the mill’s safety culture.

Training

• Conduct required environmental training as necessary.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in Environmental Science, Business, Engineering or related field preferred, and/or a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the environmental field or manufacturing/business environment, preferentially with regulatory agency interaction.Basic proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Power Point.
• Ability to learn new software applications.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with mill personnel and environmental regulators.
• Ability to provide training regarding environmental regulations, rules, manuals, and policies.
