Purpose of Role

The primary responsibility of the EHS Manager is to locally advance the Environmental, Safety and Health aspects of Rehrig Pacific Company’s Management System and processes, ensuring that personnel, equipment, and operations meet expectations as defined by RPC’s Values. The EHS Manager must ensure that Environmental, Health and Safety expectations are known and defined, and internal processes and accountabilities are established that allow for these expectations to be consistently met. The EHS Manager must work cross-functionally with the local department managers to build relationships that will drive the continuous improvement of our systems and processes. Most importantly, the EHS Manager must monitor the overall performance of the local system, provide visibility to system gaps and challenges, and be able to support and drive improvements with the management team through strategic actions.

Rehrig Pacific has seven locations strategically placed throughout the United States, with an EHS Manager (EHSM) at each location. Our EHS Managers are expected to work openly as a team to share best practices and drive improvement. Although the EHS Managers report directly and partner with the Plant Manager, they will also work directly with Rehrig Pacific Company’s EHS team members on specific project work and accountabilities.

Areas of Accountabilities

Manage and advance the Environmental, Health and Safety Management System.

  • Conduct a comprehensive review and gap analysis to understand the current processes and opportunities to improve.
  • Maintain alignment and accountability with other departments through required 5S, Areas Safety and training compliance audits.
  • Work collaboratively with the EHS Team to develop and/or implement best practices and standards with the local operations team.

Manage internal & external EHS Opportunities

  • Respond and lead investigations of internal opportunities and incidents to ensure that root cause is determined, and corrective actions are implemented to drive desired results with the local management team.
  • Manage all external EHS opportunities and support our sales team and customers as needed.

Lead and develop the local team according to Rehrig’s core values

  • Coach local departments and floor leaders on our EHS policies in place to advance the local operations team safety culture.
  • Serve as the subject matter experts on EHS best practices and compliance opportunities.
  • Provide feedback on 5S, Areas Safety, and training compliance audits to the Plant Manager for quarterly and annual Key Accountability reviews.

Improve EHS metrics through strategic targets and actions.

  • Use Leading Indicator data to understand and prioritize local EHS opportunities, and to track the effectiveness of strategic action items and their impact on EHS metrics over time.
  • With local Management, develop set targets and actions to drive improvements.
  • Track and communicate progress via monthly and quarterly Plan to Zero (PTZ) Reports.

Support new equipment and product launches within the facility to ensure risks are identified and controlled.

  • Lead cross-functional teams in risk identification and reductions effort in planning and launch stages.
  • Ensure hazard prevention and control methods selected meet or exceed industry standards and best practices with a bias toward elimination and engineering controls.
  • Ensure operating procedures, work instructions, training requirements, ancillary equipment, tool and personal protective equipment specifications are established and validated.

Ensure all plant operations meet defined EHS and Compliance expectations.

  • Manage local EHS and compliance audits within the manufacturing plant and grounds to ensure compliance with Federal and Local Safety Regulations and and Local Standards and Guidance.
  • Conduct EHS inspections within the manufacturing plant and grounds to determine risks and opportunities for improvement.

General Responsibilities

  • Provide reports to the local operations management team on EHS performance, opportunities, and actions items.
  • Manage all EHS related documentation and records (general production & compliance related).
  • Lead EHS related training and new hire on-boarding to the local operations team and teams present at the site location.
  • Manage site EHS compliance programs such as but not limited to Lock out/Tag out, Hazardous Waste, Emergency Response, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Program, Spill Control and Countermeasures Plans and more.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental, or safety .
  • 2-5+ years of EHS Management Experience (ideally in plastic injection molding including robotics).
  • Proven ability to develop and implement processes from the ground up.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and experience with project management tools.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and departments.
  • Ability and willingness to travel locally and nationally less than 10% of the time.
  • Working knowledge of EPA, OSHA, and relevant state and local laws and regulations.
  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends and recommend strategies to close gaps and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Experience working with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma tools ideal.
