The Saint‑Gobain Abrasives manufacturing facility specializes in producing bonded abrasives—grinding wheels made from natural or synthetic grains molded into various shapes. Its Super Abrasive Wheels division manufactures advanced grinding products using diamond or cubic boron nitride (CBN), designed for shaping extremely hard or fragile materials that conventional abrasives cannot handle.

What’s the job?

The position of EHS Engineer works with the EHS Manager to perform a variety of functions to maintain and preserve the safety and health of employees and the environment.

  • Responsible for the coordination and directing of environmental, safety and health initiatives and reporting at the facility to assure compliance with local, state, federal, and company worker safety, health and environmental regulations and programs.
  • Proactively drives awareness, communicates best practices, provides training and implements new programs related to Safety, Environmental and Health.
  • Assist in managing hazardous waste generation and wastewater.
  • Respond to emergency as required to offer expertise and assistance needed.
  • Supports business driven EHS projects and programs.
Essential Functions
Program Development and Management
  • Developing, maintaining, and updating facility health, safety, and environmental programs, procedures, records, and documents and Saint‑Gobain compliant Environmental Management System.
  • Provide support to EHS Manager including:
  • evaluating EHS data,
  • meeting regularly with management to provide updates and recommendations,
  • providing technical guidance on EHS issues specific to the business and their processes.
Training and Education
  • Organizing and executing comprehensive training sessions on health, safety, and environmental protocols.
  • Drives the existing programs and new requirements throughout the site.
  • Being a service provider to the plant in supporting them in any aspects to achieve their EHS targets.
  • Helping to create an engaging environment around EHS and to establish a safety-oriented culture with strong involvement of each employee.
Incident Analysis and Correction
  • Leading investigations into workplace incidents, formulating corrective action plans, and equipping supervisors and managers with improved investigative skills through targeted training.
Regulatory Compliance and Reporting
  • Assist EHS Manager with the site's regulatory reporting requirements under local, state and federal guidelines including emission and waste discharge, and well as corporate reporting requirements.
  • Obtains all necessary certifications for the site related to EHS.
EHS Coordination and Risk Management
  • Coordinates health, safety, and environmental projects with other departments/functions and recommends and implements methods to increase health, safety, and environmental compliance and reduce/eliminate identified risk.
Risk Assessment and Compliance Monitoring
  • Conduct risk assessments, develop and implement action plans.
  • Conducts routine follow up on changes to ensure compliance to the standards.
  • Lead problem-solving activities by establishing a team, leading this team in identifying solutions, and then evaluating and selecting the proper solution.
  • Such evaluations may be quite technical in nature or also be more based on qualitative parameters depending on the problem.
What do you bring?
  • Bachelor's degree in EHS or similar disciplines. required concentration in Environmental/Industrial Hygiene discipline, science, or engineering Preferred
  • 3+ years experience developing, implementing and running a safety program in a manufacturing setting
  • 3+ years experience with environmental reporting within a manufacturing environment
  • 3+ years knowledge/experience within Regulatory Environment.
  • Demonstrated strength in analytical thinking complemented by advanced computer skills
  • Exceptional communication abilities paired with robust team-building skills, capable of training individuals at various organizational levels
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and equipment and competent to assess safety and environmental risk and recommend improvements in controls as needed (competence in using a disciplined risk and gap reduction methodology).
  • Strong problem solving skills and organizational skills
  • Ability to lead teams and/or actively participate on teams and coordinate activities with other departments/functions to achieve the EHS goals for the site.
  • Skilled in conducting environmental reporting in a manufacturing setting
Pay Transparency:

Certain locations require pay information be provided in job postings. Saint‑Gobain aims to deliver a comprehensive Total Rewards package to support our employees’ wellbeing and help improve daily life for themselves and their families. We believe in the importance of pay transparency in what we offer potential candidates. Provided is the national pay range for this position, which is $81,500 to $126,500 per year. However, the base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, internal equity, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.

In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus. The targeted bonus amount is TARGET BONUS 10% of base salary based on company and individual performance measures. The Total Target Cash range (base pay and annual bonus) for this position, is $89,650 to $139,150. Bonus payments are part of variable compensation and by nature can vary based on company and individual performance and is not a guarantee.
