Job Brief
The EHS Coordinator is responsible for the occupational HSE-related activities for designated operational areas. The Coordinator ensures HSE risks are managed according to company policies and industry best practices, while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements. The EHS Coordinator works closely with all operational staff, leads and management. The candidate should have experience within the oil and gas industry, a proven track record, and commitment to achieving all HSE and company objectives.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Coordinates with HSE Manager and HSE team to ensure effective use of best practices and consistency in approach to HSE responsibilities.
- Promotes a risk-based approach to HSE management utilizing company policies, standards, and processes for all operational activities.
- Provides HSE support, coaching, and training at all levels, including promoting the company’s commitment to 24/7 safety culture for all workers.
- Plans and participates in HSE audits/reviews of operations and related assigned areas to ensure proper implementation and compliance.
- Supports the implementation and achievement of HSE objectives and performance measures during all drilling operational activities.
- Leads initiatives to promote visible and proactive management commitment and employee engagement in HSE activities.
- Reviews existing HSE training plans and specific training needs, provide training, as appropriate, and/or facilitate visiting specialist trainers.
- Ensures compliance with system for collecting, storing, analyzing, tracking, and reporting HSE performance data (i.e., incident report findings, audit actions, and related HSE metrics).
- Participates and audits job-planning activities, including field level hazard assessments, Job Safety Assessments (JSA), and hazard recognition.
- Participates in risk management and HSE activities including risk assessments, audits, HSE meetings, and onsite work activities.
- Prepares and assists with presentation of monthly safety meetings, prepares presentations.
- Participates/complies with company safety programs & company policies.
- Other duties as required.
Required Skills/Qualifications
Education & Certification
Required – OSHA 30 Construction Industry Outreach Program (U.S.)
Required – OSHA 510 or 500 Construction Industry Standards (U.S.)
Required – Knowledge of applicable consensus standards i.e. NFPA 70E/CSA Z462, if electrical work will fall under his/her scope, knowledge of OSHA Subpart R and ANSI/AISC 360 if steel erection of structural steel buildings will fall under his/her scope.
Experience
Required – Minimum of 5 years direct experience with the specific type of hazards that can reasonably be expected in the contractor’s daily work.
- Example - If the contractor will perform site prep, the contractor’s Safety Representative should be knowledgeable in trenching and shoring, earth moving equipment, dust control measures, etc. If performing crane work, the Safety Representative should have extensive knowledge of crane safety, rigging requirements, signaling requirements, etc.
Expected – Minimum 3 years’ experience conducting safety related activities including, but not limited to:
- Construction Safety Orientation
- Construction Safety Audits
- Implementing countermeasures for systemic problems that did not minimize risk or that lead to illnesses/injuries
- Formally tracking and reporting illness/injury data to project leadership
- Leading construction safety meetings with trade workers, project engineers/management, construction safety professionals, etc.
Expected – Experience developing or improving a construction safety management system or process:
- Writing a contractor safety manual, Site Specific Safety Plan, etc.
- Developing a process for JSA review and approval
- Developing a construction safety orientation program
- Developing a site audit program
- Implementing a line-side management review process for safety
Preferred – Experience leading successful interactions with any Federal/Provincial/State inspections, e.g., OSHA, Ministry of Labor, Fire Marshall, etc.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug and alcohol test (required for safety-sensitive roles).
- Completion of a criminal background check, with results assessed based on relevance to the position.
- Verification of a clean driving record, as defined by Control Tech’s standards (e.g., no major violations, no more than 3 infractions in the past 5 years).
