Job summary

The Charter County of Wayne seeks a Department Manager 6 to lead environmental health programs and ensure regulatory compliance across environmental health initiatives. You will supervise staff, oversee inspections, and coordinate program operations to protect community health.

Responsibilities include managing diverse programs such as lead poisoning prevention, onsite wastewater, pool inspections, and care facility oversight. Strong leadership and regulatory knowledge are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, Engineering, Biological Science, or a closely related field.
• Registered Sanitarian or Registered Environmental Health Specialist / Registered Sanitarian.
• A valid State of Michigan driver's license and acceptable driving record; automobile available for daily use.
• At least six years of environmental health experience, with at least four years in general environmental health program areas (food services sanitation, water supplies, on-site sewage disposal management, institutional sanitation, vector control, recreational sanitation, etc.). Experience must include at least two years of supervisory or special assessment experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and oversight of Environmental Health Unit programs and staff.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and grant requirements.
• Coordinate inspections and program activities across multiple environmental health programs.
• Prepare reports and respond to emergencies as directed by Department Executives.
