Job summary

The Florida Department of Health is hiring an Environmental Specialist I to perform inspections of facilities and oversee environmental health programs. This role requires a bachelor’s degree in natural sciences and the ability to perform fieldwork, lift up to 40 pounds, and work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Responsibilities include inspections, reporting, and providing guidance to facilities and the public.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in natural sciences with a total of 30 semester hours or 40 quarter hours completed.
• Authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
• Willing to come in daily to the office and/or perform field work.
• Physically able to lift up to 40 pounds, walk long distances, and work outdoors in varying weather.

Responsibilities

• Conduct inspections and re-inspections of facilities in the Facilities Section to ensure compliance with health rules.
• Submit reports and maintain program records; review permits and facility status.
• Provide consultation to facility management and public on violations and procedures.
• Conduct complaint investigations and follow-up actions; initiate legal actions when needed.
