Job description

Position Summary:

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for ensuring workplace safety and environmental compliance. They develop, implement, and monitor health and safety programs that protect employees, the public, and the environment. This role requires a thorough understanding of regulations, risk management, and emergency response.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Conduct risk assessments to identify potential hazards and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  2. Work with the safety team to develop and update safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  3. Monitor and audit workplace practices to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  4. Develop and conduct training programs to educate staff on safety practices, emergency procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  5. Investigate accidents and incidents to determine root causes and collaborate with HR for corrective actions.
  6. Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials to prevent contamination and exposure.
  7. Coordinate emergency response efforts with facilities, including drills and incident management.
  8. Maintain accurate safety records and documentation, including Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  9. Act as the primary contact with regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards.
  10. Promote a safety culture within the organization by encouraging proactive safety issue identification and resolution.
  11. Maintain records of hazardous waste discharge and employee exposure, as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental safety, occupational safety and health, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in chemical manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and 5S principles.
  • Proficiency with technology and equipment used in environmental inspections.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Physical and Mental Demands:

This role involves physical activities such as standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing. The employee must frequently lift items over 75 pounds and have good vision capabilities. The job requires high concentration levels to manage interruptions and meet deadlines, performing duties in both office and manufacturing environments.
