Job description

Environmental Health and Safety Manager

The company is seeking a qualified individual to fill a full-time position as an Environmental Health and Safety Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and documenting safety, health, and environmental policies across the company, ensuring compliance with local, state, federal, and international laws and regulations.

Responsibilities:
  1. Maintain awareness of environmental hazards and ensure company-wide compliance.
  2. Support and participate in continuous improvement activities.
  3. Manage accident/incident investigations and corrective actions.
  4. Serve as a lead auditor and designated person ashore.
  5. Document training in accordance with OSHA and USCG/ABS regulations to ensure compliance.
  6. Provide training on rules, regulations, and safe work practices to managers, supervisors, and team members.
  7. Review equipment purchases to ensure safety safeguards and compliance with OSHA and other agencies.
  8. Assess workplace risks and hazards to maintain a safe environment.
  9. Possess knowledge of safety systems and marine operations.
  10. Organize and complete permits related to health and safety, such as environmental, fire safety, and operational permits.
  11. Oversee the company's global EH&S and Risk Management programs and policies.
  12. Experience with management of change systems is preferred.
Requirements:
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Health, and Safety or related field; five (5) years of experience preferred.
  2. Possession or ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card and a valid driver’s license.
  3. CET/CSP certification is a plus.
  4. Good knowledge of EPA, OSHA, NYS DEC, USCG, SOLAS, ABS, and IMO regulations.
  5. Knowledge of safety issues and hazards in the marine industry.
  6. Offshore Wind experience is a plus.
  7. CPR, First Aid, and AED trainer certification.
  8. OSHA 10hr/30hr, Maritime, and Hazwoper Trainer certifications.
  9. Excellent communication skills, outgoing personality, and ability to interact at all levels.
  10. Ability to participate in incident investigations and maintain proper documentation.
  11. Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence senior management.
  12. Proficiency in email, internet, Access, Word, and Excel.
  13. Ability to travel approximately 10% of the year.
Physical Requirements:
  1. Ability to stand and walk frequently.
  2. Ability to bend, rotate, reach, and lift at least 25 lbs.
  3. Ability to ascend/descend stairs or ladders safely.
  4. Handle and manipulate materials as required.
  5. Navigate small and confined spaces on vessels.
  6. Perform emergency duties as listed in vessel station bills.
