Job Description:

Aerojet-Rocketdyne, an L3Harris Technologies Company, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Environmental Health & Safety Engineer. In this role, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring company environment, health, and safety (EHS) programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. You will work to reduce company risk and liability across all EHS aspects, assist in sampling, observations, training, and inspections, and collaborate with stakeholders during space planning, facility expansions, or modifications to ensure EHS compliance. You will also assist with root cause analysis of EHS incidents, recommend corrective actions, and monitor sustainability initiatives. The ideal candidate will ensure safety procedures are followed on manufacturing floors and off-site assembly areas. Coleman Aerospace specializes in missile target systems supporting ballistic missile defense testing, with primary products including high-fidelity air-launched ballistic missile targets. This position is based in Orlando, FL.

Essential Functions:
  • Perform hazard analysis and risk assessments.
  • Assist management in accident investigations and recommend corrective actions.
  • Conduct routine audits and inspections to identify and address non-compliance issues.
  • Manage projects related to energetics and safety, including incident investigation, risk management, and process hazard analysis.
  • Evaluate safety program documents and resolve safety issues.
  • Assess safety hazards and recommend process improvements to ensure safety integration.
  • Develop and implement enterprise safety policies; collaborate with management to identify risks and generate reports.
  • Generate and maintain Safety Assessment Reports and Hazard Logs.
  • Conduct safety training and awareness campaigns.
  • Serve as liaison with employees, management, customers, auditors, and regulators.
  • Travel locally up to 15%, including trips to the Cape Canaveral facility.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with at least 6 years of relevant EHS experience, or a graduate degree with at least 4 years, or 10 years of experience in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Additional Skills:
  • Active DoD clearance (preferred).
  • Knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910 standards.
  • Familiarity with standards such as OSHA, NFPA, NEC, ANSI, and relevant regulations.
  • Knowledge of munitions, explosives, and energetic materials, including safety measures.
  • Experience with confined spaces, fall protection, lock-out/tag-out, machine guarding, electrical safety (NFPA 70E), and energetics.
  • Prior industrial hygiene experience.
  • Knowledge of MIL-STD-882, AFSPCMAN 91-710, or equivalent system safety methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Safety Assessment Reports and Hazard Logs.
  • Professional certifications (ASP, CSP, CIH, CHMM) are preferred.
  • Operations safety experience with flight hardware is a plus.
  • Comfortable addressing safety behaviors across all personnel levels.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
