Job summary

WSP is seeking an Environmental Engineer to join our Earth & Environment team across multiple Indiana/Midwest locations. The role focuses on multimedia site investigations and remediation for energy clients, with significant field work and travel.

The ideal candidate has a BS in Environmental Engineering and 1+ years of relevant experience, including sampling, investigations, or remediation. OSHA 40‑hour HAZWOPER certification is required, along with a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Environmental Engineering or related field.
  • 1+ years of relevant experience in environmental sampling, site investigation, or remediation.
  • Must be organized and detail-oriented.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Flexible to work outside normal business hours, at locations requiring overnight stays, and overtime as needed.
  • Ability to apply analytical and scientific thinking to define and solve problems.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, follow detailed instructions, and learn new skills.
  • Ability to remain on feet for extended periods of time, either stationary or walking.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to pass a HAZWOPER physical and be medically able to wear a tight-fitting respirator.
  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP's Motor Vehicle screening.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification required.
  • Experience in site investigations required.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

  • Approximately 70% field work and travel with overnight stays.
  • Perform environmental sampling (e.g., surface water, groundwater, soil, sediment, soil vapor, indoor air) and oversee subcontractors in the field (e.g., drillers).
  • Complete detailed field notes and other forms of documentation to accurately capture field activities and observations.
  • Collaborate in a team environment and communicate effectively with staff across multiple disciplines.
  • Communicate professionally with staff, management, clients, regulators, and on-site personnel both verbally and in writing.
  • Assist with project planning and coordination with laboratories, drillers, and equipment vendors.
