Job summary

The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) seeks Environmental Engineering Interns for the Stormwater Permitting section in Queens, NY. Under supervision, interns will review construction plans for stormwater compliance, inspect sites, and assist with MS4 permit enforcement and post-construction practices.

Candidates must submit proof of filing and passing the DCAS Civil Service Exam for Environmental Engineering Intern to be considered.

Qualifications

• Baccalaureate degree in environmental, fire protection, chemical, mechanical, petroleum, aeronautical, or materials engineering.
• Engineering technology degree with two years of environmental engineering experience.

Responsibilities

• Read and understand engineering plans and drawings.
• Review applications for compliance with rules and codes.
• Respond to complaints and inspect construction sites for compliance.
• Witness soil tests and inspect stormwater management practices.
• Communicate questions and concerns on applications and inspections.
