Job summary

Koch Fertilizer is seeking an Environmental Engineering Intern to join our team for the Summer of 2027 in Dodge City, Kansas. This paid 12-week internship offers exposure to environmental regulations and sustainability initiatives within our EHS environment.

You'll work with the EHS team on regulatory reviews, data analysis, and engineering calculations across air emissions, wastewater, and waste management programs, gaining hands-on experience in a real facility setting.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a degree or other education program in environmental-related fields.
• Eligible for full-time employment in Summer 2029.
• Legally authorized to work permanently in the United States without visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Support environmental compliance programs by assisting with permit reviews, reporting, documentation, and assessments.
• Analyze environmental data and develop tools to improve reporting and tracking.
• Perform engineering calculations and support reviews related to air emissions, wastewater, and waste management.
• Participate in environmental sampling, inspections, audits, and monitoring activities.
• Assist with incident investigations and continuous improvement projects to reduce risk.
• Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and EHS teams on project work.

Our Team

As an Environmental Engineering Intern with Koch Fertilizer, you’ll work alongside our Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) team to support environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives at our facility. This hands‑on role offers an opportunity to gain exposure to environmental regulations, data analysis, and compliance management across multiple programs — including the Clean Air Act (CAA), Clean Water Act (CWA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), and Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC).

What You Will Do

• Support environmental compliance programs and regulatory initiatives by assisting with permit reviews, reporting, documentation, and environmental assessments.
• Analyze environmental data and develop tools that improve reporting, compliance tracking, and decision‑making.
• Perform engineering calculations and support regulatory reviews related to air emissions, wastewater, waste management, and other environmental programs.
• Participate in environmental sampling, inspections, audits, and monitoring activities to help verify compliance and environmental performance.
• Assist with incident investigations, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement projects that reduce risk and enhance environmental systems.
• Partner with operations, maintenance, and EHS teams on projects that balance field experience with engineering analysis and problem‑solving.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

• Currently enrolled in a degree program or alternative education program (e.g., 4-year college program, 2-year technical college, certificate program, upskilling program, etc.) in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Earth Science, Environmental Sciences, or a related field.
• Eligible for full‑time employment on or beforeSummer 2029.
• Legally authorized to work permanently in the United States without requiring visa transfer or sponsorship.

What Will Put You Ahead

• Prior internship or project experience in environmental compliance, permitting, or data analysis.
• Familiarity with major environmental regulations (Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, RCRA).
• Experience using Microsoft Excel or other tools for data tracking and analysis.
