Koch Fertilizer Fort Dodge, LLC invites rising mechanical engineering students to a 12-week Summer Mechanical Engineering Intern program in Fort Dodge, Iowa, running from late May to mid-August 2027. You will work on representative projects across plant reliability, maintenance, and operational excellence, and gain hands-on experience with drawings and process documentation.

• Willing and able to meet all physical requirements.

Responsibilities

• Take on projects that are representative of the work our full-time engineers do, gaining hands-on experience supporting plant reliability, maintenance, and operational excellence.
• Analyze equipment and operational data to identify improvement opportunities, support decision-making, and drive process optimization initiatives.
• Support predictive and preventive maintenance efforts to improve equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
• Participate in root cause analysis and troubleshooting activities to help resolve equipment and operational challenges.
• Review and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation, including P&IDs, PFDs, piping isometrics, plot plans, and equipment specifications.

Koch Fertilizer Fort Dodge, LLC is looking for a 2027 Summer Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our Engineering team in Fort Dodge, Iowa. The internship opportunity will be a 12-week program running from late May to mid-August 2027.

What You Will Do

• Take on projects that are representative of the work our full-time engineers do, gaining hands-on experience supporting plant reliability, maintenance, and operational excellence.

• Participate in root cause analysis and troubleshooting activities to help resolve equipment and operational challenges.
• Review and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation, including Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), piping isometrics, plot plans, and equipment specifications.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Bending, kneeling, lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to climb straight ladders. Some work may require heights in excess of 100 feet.
• Wearing industrial chemical plant uniforms and PPE as required.
• Confined space entry may be required.
