Job summary

Koch Fertilizer is seeking a 2027 Summer Instrumentation Technician Intern for our Maintenance team in Beatrice, Nebraska. This 12-week internship runs from late May to mid-August 2027 and offers hands-on experience with instrumentation, process control, and plant operations.

Learn calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of transmitters, control valves, and analytical devices while supporting daily maintenance activities and safety programs.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate in instrumentation-related program.
• Willing to participate in a 12-week summer internship.
• Passion for maintenance, reliability, and plant operations.

Responsibilities

• Support equipment reliability, maintenance, and plant operations with a team of instrumentation technicians.
• Calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair process instrumentation including transmitters, control valves, and analytical devices.
• Collect readings, perform testing, diagnose equipment issues, and collaborate with operations to identify solutions.
• Participate in daily planning, complete maintenance work orders, and document calibration records.
• Interpret technical documents such as loop drawings, instrument docs, and P&IDs.
• Engage in plant safety and reliability programs through MOC reviews, inspections, and field projects.

Koch Fertilizer is looking for a 2027 Summer Instrumentation Technician Intern to join our Maintenance team in Beatrice, Nebraska. The internship opportunity will be a 12-week program running from late May to mid-August 2027.

What You Will Do

• Work alongside a team of instrumentation technicians to support equipment reliability, maintenance, and plant operations.
• Assist with the calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of process instrumentation, including transmitters, control valves, and analytical devices.
• Help diagnose equipment issues by collecting readings, performing testing, and partnering with operations to identify solutions.
• Participate in daily planning meetings, complete maintenance work orders, and document maintenance activities and calibration records.
• Learn to interpret technical documents, including loop drawings, instrument documentation, and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
• Gain exposure to plant safety and reliability programs through activities such as Management of Change (MOC) reviews, equipment inspections, and field projects.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Bending, kneeling, lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to climb straight ladders. Some work may require heights in excess of 100 feet.
• Wearing industrial chemical plant uniforms and PPE as required.
• Confined space entry may be required.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

• Currently enrolled in, or a recent graduate of a relevant degree, certificate, or workforce training program in Instrumentation, Industrial Maintenance, Automation & Robotics, HVAC, Electrician, or similar program
• Eligible for full-time employment before or by May 2029
• Legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship
• Willing and able to meet all physical requirements

What Will Put You Ahead

• Experience troubleshooting mechanical equipment, engines, rotating equipment, or maintenance systems
• Experience working with pressure transmitters, automated valves, etc.
• An ISA Certification such as Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST)
