Our Partner in Texas is seeking an experienced Environmental Engineer to lead environmental qualification testing and regulatory compliance for aerospace/defense electronics. This hands-on role focuses on developing test methodologies, overseeing test execution, analyzing results, and collaborating with engineering teams to ensure hardware withstands demanding environments.

The ideal candidate has 15+ years in aerospace/defense environmental engineering, deep MIL-STD knowledge, RoHS/REACH

Qualifications

• 15+ years of hands-on experience in environmental engineering within aerospace or defense.
• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental/Mechanical/Electrical engineering or related discipline.
• Strong experience with environmental qualification testing of aerospace/defense electronics.
• In-depth knowledge of MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-461.
• Experience with EMI, EMC testing and mitigation.
• Hands-on experience setting up and conducting environmental testing in a laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop, review, and approve environmental qualification test plans, procedures, and reports for aerospace and defense hardware.
• Design and implement environmental stress screening programs to identify latent defects in production electronics.
• Plan and oversee testing involving shock, vibration, temperature, altitude, humidity, and other environmental conditions.
• Lead hands-on laboratory test setups, including instrumentation, sensors, data collection, and monitoring of hardware performance.
• Investigate failures identified during environmental testing and work with design engineers to determine root cause and implement corrective actions.
• Partner closely with electrical, mechanical, and other engineering teams throughout the product development and qualification process.

Our Partner is a growing manufacturer specializing in ruggedized computing and mission-critical electronic systems used in demanding aerospace and defense environments. Their products are designed to perform reliably under extreme operating conditions, and they are seeking an experienced Environmental Engineer to help ensure their hardware meets rigorous qualification, testing, and regulatory requirements.

The Opportunity

The Environmental Engineer will serve as a key technical resource for environmental qualification testing and regulatory compliance of aerospace and defense electronics. This is a highly hands-on role with significant time spent in the laboratory, developing test methodologies, overseeing test execution, analyzing results, and working closely with engineering teams to ensure hardware is built to withstand demanding operational environments.

The ideal candidate brings extensive experience with aerospace or defense hardware and a strong understanding of environmental qualification, military standards, EMI/EMC, and regulatory compliance.

What They’ll Do

• Develop, review, and approve environmental qualification test plans, procedures, and reports for aerospace and defense hardware.
• Design and implement environmental stress screening programs to identify latent defects in production electronics.
• Interpret and apply military standards, including MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-461, to establish appropriate environmental and electromagnetic testing requirements.
• Plan and oversee testing involving shock, vibration, temperature, altitude, humidity, and other environmental conditions.
• Lead hands-on laboratory test setups, including instrumentation, sensors, data collection, and monitoring of hardware performance.
• Direct and analyze EMI, EMC, and ESD testing for ruggedized computing platforms and complex aerospace assemblies.
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and directives, including RoHS and REACH.
• Review environmental qualification data and reports to verify hardware meets established requirements.
• Investigate failures identified during environmental testing and work with design engineers to determine root cause and implement corrective actions.
• Partner closely with electrical, mechanical, and other engineering teams throughout the product development and qualification process.
• Serve as a technical resource for environmental testing, qualification, and regulatory compliance.

What They’re Looking For

• 15+ years of hands-on experience in environmental engineering and qualification testing within the aerospace or defense industry.
• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Strong experience with environmental qualification testing of aerospace or defense electronics.
• In-depth knowledge of MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-461.
• Experience with EMI, EMC, and ESD testing and mitigation.
• Hands-on experience setting up and conducting environmental testing in a laboratory environment.
• Experience with Environmental Stress Screening (ESS).
• Strong understanding of RoHS and REACH compliance and material/substance tracking.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze environmental test data and troubleshoot hardware failures.
• Strong technical writing skills, including experience developing and reviewing qualification plans, procedures, and reports.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary engineering teams while also operating independently.
