Job summary

The City of Charlotte is seeking an Environmental Compliance Specialist to oversee the Industrial Pretreatment Program across seven wastewater treatment plants. You will inspect facilities, review regulations, write permits, collect samples, analyze data, and engage with lab, treatment plant staff, industry partners, and the public to ensure biosolids are available for beneficial reuse.

Ideal candidates have a science background with at least three years of related experience, strong regulatory

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in science, chemistry, biology, biochemistry, or a related field.
• Three (3) years of related work experience, preferably in industrial processes and water/wastewater treatment.

Responsibilities

• Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to industrial customers, pretreatment, and industrial waste.
• Performs inspections of industrial facilities.
• Writes industrial user permits in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
• Conducts site visits; collects samples; evaluates results.
• Educates and assists businesses and industries regarding regulations and standards.
• Monitors and develops administrative orders, compliance orders, and enforcement actions.
• Evaluates Wastewater Surveys and Permit Applications.
• Assists with ISO environmental management and outreach activities.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
