ENGIE North America is seeking an Environmental Compliance Manager to oversee LEI NorthAm environmental programs, permitting, and regulatory strategies across facilities. You will lead audits, track permits, and drive performance aligned with ENGIE's strategic objectives.

The role requires a strong background in air and water regulations, waste management, and a collaborative leadership style. Hybrid work is supported with up to 50% travel domestically.

  • 7+ years in environmental compliance with 5+ years in power generation.
  • Expertise in air and effluent water regulations, waste management and spill prevention.

Job description

As the Environmental Compliance Manager, you will provide direct oversight of corporate and plant level compliance assurance management programs, policies, procedures, and permitting in support of the company’s environmental strategic objectives for Local Energy Infrastructures (LEI) NorthAm. With the direction of ENGIE’s HSE Director you will, determine all environmental permitting and licensing requirements to include the associated costs, schedule and resources needed to conceive new business development projects in the US.

Essential duties include the following:

  • Serve as primary environmental lead for LEI NorthAm operating facilities, partnering with Plant Managers to ensure cost-effective compliance with all federal, state, local, company, and customer environmental requirements
  • Maintain and manage a weekly compliance tracking matrix covering all permits, obligations, and deadlines, ensuring visibility at each site and establishing Maximo ticklers plus monthly reminder systems for Plant Managers
  • Oversee comprehensive compliance tracking and audits spanning air emissions/CEMS, water discharge, storage tanks, fugitive emissions, spill kits, calibration records, and emission/water treatment controls
  • Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis for regulatory deviations, collaborating with Plant Managers to identify causes, prevent recurrence, and document Lessons Learned
  • Produce and distribute monthly compliance performance reports, analyzing trends to drive continuous improvement and set environmental objectives aligned with company goals
  • Manage a site‑specific annual audit program assessing permitting, air/water/waste/hazmat compliance, and remediation, while evaluating organizational maturity to foster a self‑directed compliance culture
  • Chair monthly environmental team calls across all sites to review performance, compliance risks, and lessons learned, and track participation for accountability
  • Hold monthly one‑on‑one calls with each Plant Manager to review compliance obligations, activities, and any emerging issues requiring additional attention
  • Act as liaison with environmental agencies, supporting facilities during inspections and building strong working relationships with regulators at all levels
  • Maintain a centralized records system for permits and environmental submissions, and immediately escal
  • Support permit applications, renewals, and report submittals by reviewing documents and managing consultants/contractors for environmental and regulatory services
  • Advise management and legal counsel on regulatory changes, provide technical expertise, and lead knowledge-sharing/training initiatives while conducting at least one compliance visit per facility annually
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Environmental Science/Studies required
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of operational and managerial experience in an environmental compliance and business development role within the energy sector, with five (5) years in power generation industry
  • Exhibit subject matter expertise in air and effluent water regulations, pollution discharge elimination systems, solid and hazardous/non-hazardous waste management, stormwater pollution and oil spill prevention, storage tank integrity, hazardous substance communication and control, wetlands and wildlife preservation and environmental emergency response and remediation requirements.
  • Exhibit mastery of Root Cause Failure Analysis tools and their application for noncompliance events.
  • Possess verbal, written, interpersonal and public speaking communication skills when interacting with both internal and external stakeholders, to include media relations.
  • Exhibit high levels of emotional intelligence as a team leader in the development and implementation of an environmental sustainability strategy.
  • Proficient in database management, modeling and analyses in direct support of essential job functions
  • This role is eligible for our hybrid work policy
  • Must be available to travel domestically up to 50% of the time
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license/clean driving record
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
Compensation

Salary Range: $117,300 – $179,860 USD annually

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws. Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
