Job summary

ENGIE North America is seeking a Senior I&C Engineer to design, implement, commission, and maintain instrumentation and control systems for utility and district energy assets. You will support design work, review contractor deliverables, and participate in field activities to ensure safe, efficient project delivery.

You will collaborate with internal teams, contractors, and operations to support complex projects and operational initiatives, while maintaining compliance with applicable standards

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Computer Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum five (5) years of instrumentation and controls engineering, automation, commissioning, operations support, or related industrial environments.
  • Familiarity with instrumentation and control systems used in power generation, utilities, district energy, or industrial facilities.
  • Basic understanding of control loop fundamentals, process automation, and industrial instrumentation.
  • Exposure to PLC, DCS, SCADA, HMI, or building automation systems through education or experience.

  • Review contractor I&C work progress for schedules, quality, and codes.

  • Assist in evaluating repair, replacement, and upgrade opportunities for control systems.

Job description

As the Senior I&C (Instrumentation & Controls) Engineer, you will support the design, implementation, commissioning, and maintenance of instrumentation and control systems for existing utility and district energy assets, as well as new capital and brownfield projects. Working under the guidance of senior engineers, the Engineer I&C will assist in developing engineering designs, reviewing contractor deliverables, supporting field activities, and ensuring project objectives are achieved safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable standards. The role will collaborate with internal teams, contractors, operations personnel, and other ENGIE technical resources to support the successful delivery of projects and operational initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the design and development of control systems for various utility processes, including electrical power generation, utility distribution networks and accessories
  • Assist with the design, installation, and commissioning of plant control systems and associated instrumentation for new capital projects and on-campus integration (utilities, district energy systems, combined heat and power etc.)
  • Participate in projects involving multiple applications, including SCADA, device controls and sensors, communications networks, and related systems
  • Assist with reviewing engineering contractor I&C work progress, ensuring compliance with project schedules, quality standards, and applicable codes
  • Support the development and documentation of control system architectures and communication network layouts
  • Review instruments and actuators to accurately measure and control critical parameters like voltage, pressure, temperature, flow rate, etc.. under the guidance of senior engineering
  • Review instrumentation for adequate redundancy to meet operating reliability requirements and control logics enabling effective operations and controls
  • Participate in the review of the process automation as it relates to manual intervention during a plant upset and determine if adequate automation is in place to ensure continuous supply for utilities
  • Support system integration of different components of the control system, including field devices, communication networks, and operator interface stations.
  • Assist in evaluating repair, replacement, and upgrade opportunities for existing control systems and instrumentation
  • Support communications and coordination between the Central Utility Plant, Substation, campus networks, and grid operator
  • Support the commissioning process for the control system, ensuring all components function as designed
  • Collaborate with contractors to resolve issues during construction, commissioning and post-commissioning phases

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in instrumentation and controls engineering, automation, commissioning, operations support, or related industrial environments
  • Familiarity with instrumentation and control systems used in power generation, utilities, district energy, or industrial facilities.
  • Basic understanding of control loop fundamentals, process automation, and industrial instrumentation
  • Exposure to PLC, DCS, SCADA, HMI, or building automation systems through education, internships, or professional experience
  • Familiarity with SCADA, HMI design and PI, Web CTRL Building Energy Modelling / automation systems (BAS) and fault detection diagnostic (FDD) systems
  • Familiarity with industry standards UL, IEC, ISO IEEE and other design codes
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and work collaboratively in a team environment
  • This role is eligible for our hybrid work policy
  • Must be available to travel domestically up to 20% of the time
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license/clean driving record; involves occasional fieldwork across active construction sites
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies

Compensation

Salary Range: $102,000 – $156,400 USD annually

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws. Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
