Job summary

Northern Natural Gas is seeking an Environmental Compliance professional to ensure adherence to local, state, and federal environmental regulations across pipeline development, permitting, construction, and operations.

The role involves coordinating environmental planning, conducting impact assessments, preparing FERC-relevant reports, and serving as a liaison with regulatory agencies. A strong background in environmental law and project management is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, engineering, or related field with 6+ years of environmental experience.
  • Expert knowledge of environmental regulations and law, construction environmental mitigation methods, and compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of biological resources, water resources including wetland regulation and permitting, waste management, cultural resource regulation, endangered species, air quality, land use and agency negotiation.
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, presentations, and database software; familiarity with financial tracking and time reporting software.
  • Strong writing, math and communication skills; ability to analyze data and negotiate.

Responsibilities

  • Supports and advises departments on compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Interprets applicable environmental laws, regulations and policies.
  • Develops and maintains documentation for environmental compliance programs.
  • Coordinates planning, environmental cost estimating and preparation of assessments.
  • Writes and edits environmental reports for FERC.
  • Prepares applications to procure environmental permits, variances and other authorizations.
  • Monitors regulatory initiatives and participates in their developmental process prior to rulemaking.
  • Serves as liaison to environmental regulatory agencies.
  • Coordinates planning and implementation of waste management and remediation activities.
  • Coordinates requirements of agencies such as the Clean Water Act and Clean Air Act.
  • Conducts environmental training and periodic awareness programs.
  • Performs environmental compliance audits and due diligence investigations.
  • Coordinates and manages environmental emergency response activities.
