Job summary

Capital Region Water in Harrisburg, PA is seeking an Environmental Compliance Inspector to perform inspections, sampling, and monitoring to ensure compliance with wastewater, pretreatment, stormwater, and oil and grease regulations. The role emphasizes field inspections of facilities and reporting.

You will investigate complaints, inspect grease traps, and help develop prevention programs; collaborate with municipalities, and respond to incidents outside hours.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering technology, biology, chemistry, physical science, environmental science, or related field preferred.
• Alternatively, a high school diploma with 5 years of water/wastewater operations and inspection experience.
• PA Wastewater Operator Certification preferred.
• 2+ years in water/wastewater operations and inspections preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct inspections, monitoring, and sampling of facilities for compliance with wastewater, pretreatment, stormwater, and oil and grease rules.
• Inspect food service and automotive shops for CRW compliance.
• Investigate complaints and illicit discharges.
• Inspect grease traps and interceptors; verify hauling records; issue reports.
• Issue notices of violation and enforcement actions per CRW and local ordinances.
• Develop and maintain oil and grease prevention programs including sampling and customer education.
• Assist in emergency environmental situations from spills or releases.
• Review blueprints to ensure proper fixture sizing and connections.
• Respond to emergencies outside normal hours as needed.
