Job summary

Inframark is seeking an Environmental Compliance Inspector for the Burbank Water Reclamation Treatment plant. The role involves inspecting facilities, collecting samples, maintaining safety, and preparing regulatory documentation.

You may work weekends and on-call hours as needed. Under supervision, you will monitor compliance with Clean Water Act and local pretreatment programs, with a goal to attain Grade I certification within a year and grow your expertise in environmental compliance

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; one year of related experience preferred.
• Ability to attain Environmental Compliance Inspector Grade I within a year.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and sample wastewater facilities to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Set up composite samplers and use flow and pH equipment safely.
• Collect effluent samples and prepare documentation (chain of custody, labels, etc.).
• Respond to complaints regarding illicit discharges, odors, and hazards.
• Work all shifts including weekends, holidays, evenings, and on-call.
• Enter inspection data into the pretreatment program database.
• Conduct field tests and site inspections of various sites for risk assessment.
• Investigate violations related to stormwater and wastewater discharges.

Job description

Looking for an Environmental Compliance Inspector at Burbank Water Reclamation Treatment plant.

Under general supervision, performing non-categorical & categorical regulated inspections; hazardous material regulations; sampling; compliance monitoring; permit writing; surveillance of industrial facilities to ensure regulatory compliance with Clean Water Act, State, and local pretreatment and stormwater program is preferrable or related. Ability to attain Environmental Compliance Inspector Grade I certification within a year.

Salary range is $28-$30.00 depending on level of experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Inspect and sample the facilities of wastewater dischargers; inspect records on operations and activities to ensure compliance.
• Set composite samplers and use flow measurement equipment and pH equipment in manholes; ensure adherence to safe work practices.
• Collect and preserve samples of effluent discharges for testing procedures; prepare sampling paperwork including chain of custodies, labels, laboratory analysis sheet, sample request form and tracking and monitoring forms.
• Use proper traffic control techniques to provide a safe working environment when working in heavy traffic areas.
• Respond to complaints regarding illicit discharges, odors, hazardous materials, Sanitary Sewer Overflows, and Grease Interceptor Overflows, in the public and private sectors.
• Willing to work all shifts, including weekends, holidays, evening and 24-hour emergency on call.
• Database entry of inspections into pretreatment program database.
• Field Testing & Sampling: Schedules and conducts field tests, collects samples (wastewater, stormwater, groundwater, etc.), and ensures proper sampling methods and protocols.
• Site Inspections: Performs comprehensive inspections at commercial, industrial, and residential sites, including evaluating environmental risks and ensuring proper storage of hazardous chemicals.
• Violation Investigation: Investigates violations related to stormwater and wastewater discharge, enforcing relevant regulations.
• Data Management: Updates databases for compliance tracking, inputs violations, and generates reports.
• Report Preparation: Prepares written reports and maintains records per City regulations; assists with regulatory compliance submissions.
• Equipment Operation: Calibrates and operates specialized monitoring equipment for wastewater & stormwater.
• Collaboration & Communication: Works with regulatory agencies, explains regulations to customers, and responds to public inquiries.

Education/Experience

High School Diploma or GED. One-year related experience preferred.

Licenses/Certifications

Valid Driver's License, maintains insurable driving record, Environmental Compliance Inspector Grade I desirable.

Technical

Ability to follow manual & operating instructions. Knowledge of process control techniques, maintenance procedures & safety practices. Ability to perform routine maintenance/repairs. Ability to work with required tools (including jack hammer, demolishing saw, etc.). Comfortable in and around water/raw sewage.
