Job summary

Canacre in Minnesota is seeking an Environmental Compliance Inspector to monitor construction activities for compliance with permits, SWPPP plans, and environmental regulations. You will oversee mitigation measures and coordinate with contractors and agency inspectors.

The role requires a post-secondary degree in Environmental Science and MPCA stormwater training, plus 5 years of experience in environmental management and utilities construction. Competitive compensation and benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary degree in Environmental Science or related field.
• MPCA-approved stormwater training.
• Minimum 5 years of professional experience in Environmental Management and SWPPP inspection.
• Minimum 5 year of professional experience in utilities construction industry
• Strong working knowledge of environmental legislation and regulations
• Experience with SWPPPs or Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure plans is an asset
• Formal designations or certifications in CPESC/CESCL are assets

Responsibilities

• Conduct daily inspections of construction activities for compliance with permits, landowner agreements, and project approvals.
• Monitor environmentally sensitive areas and ensure mitigation measures are followed.
• Oversee implementation of mitigation measures and best management practices.
• Regularly inspect construction sites to identify environmental hazards and ensure SWPPP compliance.
• Report on general environmental compliance to the client and contractors, focusing on fire, dust, hazardous materials, erosion control, and restoration guidelines.
• Identify sensitive resources and coordinate with construction personnel to discuss protections.
• Explain environmental regulations to construction staff and apply them to activities.
• Ensure work areas and access routes are properly marked before work begins.
• Coordinate with inspectors and other agencies as needed.
• Advise on corrective actions for non-compliance and stop-work when required.
• Document restoration activities and maintain daily reports for the project team.
