Job summary

Carver County is seeking an Assistant Environmentalist to provide technical assistance and customer service at the Environmental Center. The role emphasizes solid waste and hazardous waste programs, with potential involvement in enforcement and plan implementation depending on qualifications.

Primary duties include assisting with Center operations, education programs, waste streams management, organics diversion, and household hazardous waste collection.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in or completed a post-secondary program in solid waste management, environmental science, or related fields.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record.

Responsibilities

• Assist with operation of the Environmental Center and participate in education programs, emphasizing customer service.
• Assist in managing residential and commercial organics diversion.
• Support household hazardous waste and special waste collection programs.
• Support staff with environmental regulatory programs (solid and hazardous waste, SSTS inspections, industrial waste compliance, rural recycling site support, feedlot program).
• Collaborate with County staff and other counties or state organizations.
