Job summary

Sigma Earth is seeking personnel for a solid waste sorting role focused on categorizing plastics, paper, cardboard, food waste, and regulated waste. You will use hand tools to separate materials safely, lift items up to 30 pounds, and travel with the team to transfer stations, landfills, and client sites across the continental United States, with a Midwest focus.

The position requires a high school diploma, the ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen, and a willingness to travel as needed.

Job description

Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities

• Sort solid waste into appropriate material categories, including plastics, paper, cardboard, food waste, regulated waste, and other waste streams.
• Use hand tools to separate and manage waste materials safely and efficiently.
• Lift, move, and handle items weighing up to 30 pounds or less as part of daily sorting activities.
• Travel with the team to transfer stations, landfills, and client sites as required.
• Support projects across the continental United States, with the primary focus on the Midwest region.

Basic Qualifications

• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Positive attitude and willingness to travel for project needs.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the hazardous waste or solid waste field preferred.
• 40-hour HAZWOPER training preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for approximately 50% of the workday.
• Ability to walk for approximately 20% of the workday.
• Ability to sit for approximately 30% of the workday.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds.
• May require occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, and fingering depending on worksite needs.
