Job summary

Atlantic Health Morristown Medical Center is seeking a full-time Environmental Aide I (Housekeeping) for the Environmental Services Department. The role runs 7:00 AM–3:00 PM with every other weekend.

Starting rate is $18.50 per hour, with responsibilities including cleaning nursing units and patient rooms, restocking carts, and handling waste and bio-hazard materials. Required HS Diploma or GED, ability to read/write/speak English, and ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications

• Must be able to read, write and speak English.
• Prior housekeeping in hospital or institutional setting preferred if possible.
• 1–2 years of customer service experience in healthcare, hospitality or relevant area preferred.

Responsibilities

• Cleans nursing units, patients' rooms and all designated areas using appropriate cleaning equipment.
• Follows policies and procedures on cleaning, disinfecting and deodorization.
• Cleans up major spills and responds to pages in a timely manner.
• Restocks housekeeping carts at end of shift and handles trash and linen removal.
• Notifies maintenance of repairs and attends department meetings to stay informed.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

• Utilizes appropriate cleaning equipment in cleaning all nursing units, patients' rooms and all other designated facility areas, including the floors, woodwork, sills, vents, sinks, furniture etc.
• Follows the department's policies and procedures on cleaning, disinfecting and deodorization.
• Cleans up major spills when necessary and responds to pages in a timely manner.
• Cleans and restocks housekeeping carts at the end of each shift.
• Removes all trash and linen within the hospital.
• Follows directions carefully for cleaning solution preparations and handling of bio-hazard materials.
• Makes periodic checks for environmental needs in the assigned area.
• Reports any repairs to maintenance.
• Keeps abreast of changes in environmental services by attending monthly department meetings.
• Handles moderately complex issues and problems and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff.
• Position includes cleaning of bodily fluids.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• HS Diploma or GED/Equivalent required or will obtain within 1 year of employment.
• Must be able to read, write and speak English.
• Must be able to bend/push/pull/lift 50LBS.

Relevant Experience:

• Prior experience in housekeeping in either a hospital or institutional setting preferred.
• 1-2 years of customer service experience in healthcare, hospitality or relevant area preferred.
