Job description

Entry Writer

Every shipment you clear is a promise kept. You turn invoices, packing lists, and carrier data into accurate customs entries so freight crosses the border on time, customers stay informed, and the operation never waits on paperwork. Accuracy here is not clerical—it is how the network earns trust.

Performance Objectives
  • File complete, compliant customs entries the same day complete documents arrive, with zero avoidable holds.
  • Classify goods to the correct HTS codes and apply duties, fees, and trade programs so landed cost is right the first time.
  • Catch invoice, quantity, and origin mismatches before submission and close them with the shipper or broker of record.
  • Keep ISF, bond, and entry status current so cargo releases without detention or exam surprises.
  • Brief operations and the customer when a release is at risk, with a clear next step and owner.
  • Build reusable templates and checklists that cut rework on repeat lanes and commodity sets.
  • Leave an audit-ready file: source documents, classification rationale, and correspondence in one place.
Environment & Resources

You join a brokerage desk inside a full-service logistics operation-truckload, LTL, warehousing, cross-dock, yard, expedite, and cross-border flows. You work in the automated commercial environment and the team's transportation systems, with standard operating procedures, a senior reviewer on complex entries, and a direct line to the brokerage lead. Volume is real; so is backup when a lane spikes.

Essential Qualifications
  • Hands-on experience preparing and filing U.S. customs entries, not only data entry.
  • Working command of HTS classification, valuation, country of origin, and common trade remedies.
  • Fluency with ACE or an equivalent entry system and with commercial invoices and bills of lading.
  • A record of entries that release clean, few rejects, few post-summary corrections caused by your work.
  • Clear written updates to customers and internal teams when a shipment is blocked.
  • Comfort with high daily volume and shifting priorities without dropping compliance.
Why This Role

You see the whole move - not a document in isolation - across border, yard, and warehouse.

Your classifications and files become the standard other writers follow.

Cross-border and expedited freight means your speed shows up in customer outcomes the same day.

Growth path into senior entry work, classification ownership, or brokerage operations.
