In this role you will be responsible for the accurate and timely preparation and filing of customs entries on behalf of our importing clients, working closely with our operations team, carriers, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection. This is a great opportunity for an up-and-coming Customs Broker: we will provide you with the hands-on experience and mentorship needed to prepare for and pass the Customs Broker License Exam.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review and transmit customs entries (including Type 01 consumption and Type 03 antidumping/countervailing entries) accurately and within CBP deadlines.

  • Classify merchandise under the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS) and determine applicable duties, taxes, and fees.

  • Review commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, arrival notices and certificates of origin for completeness and compliance.

  • File entry summaries via ABI/ACE and coordinate release with CBP and Partner Government Agencies such as FDA, USDA, EPA, DOT and FWS.

  • Monitor shipment status from arrival through release and delivery, and proactively resolve holds, exams and discrepancies.

  • Communicate with importers, carriers, freight forwarders, truckers and warehouses to obtain documentation and provide status updates.

  • Prepare and process post-entry activity including PSCs, protests, duty refunds and entry corrections.

  • Maintain accurate records in accordance with CBP recordkeeping requirements and internal SOPs.

  • Support billing by ensuring entries are costed correctly and charges are passed through accurately.

  • Stay current on trade regulations, tariff changes, trade remedies (Section 301/232) and free trade agreement requirements.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience as a Customs Entry Writer or in a customs brokerage operations role.

  • Working knowledge of the basic aspects of brokerage formalities, CBP regulations (19 CFR) and entry requirements.

  • Familiarity with HTSUS classification, valuation, country of origin rules and duty calculation.

  • Experience with ABI/ACE and brokerage software such as CargoWise, SmartBorder, Descartes or similar is a plus.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy under tight deadlines.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Energetic, self-motivated and able to manage a high-volume workload with minimal supervision.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in international business, supply chain or a related field preferred.

  • Interest in sitting for the Customs Broker License Exam.

  • Competitive compensation based on experience.

  • Exposure to a broad range of clients, commodities and modes of transportation.

  • A collaborative environment where initiative and ownership are recognized.
