Job summary

Anne Arundel County – Public Works Department seeks an entry-level Wastewater Systems Technician I to operate and maintain treatment plants and pumping stations. This role involves mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and laboratory duties with advancement potential as skills and certifications grow.

Essential in duties with safety-sensitive requirements; candidates may be required to work overtime and standby. Internal training and certification programs are provided.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Two or more years in facility plant operations, lab work, or mechanical/electrical/instrumentation maintenance.
• Temporary Class 5A wastewater collection license required or obtainable within 3 years of hire.
• Valid non-commercial Class C driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, monitor, and adjust wastewater treatment and pumping station equipment.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance; assist with facilities and lab testing.
• Complete administrative tasks including work orders, inventory, and reporting.
• Prepare and submit spreadsheets, reports, and SOP updates.
• Respond to inquiries and resolve customer problems as needed.
• Adhere to safety rules and work under essential employee requirements.
