Job summary

City of Lake Charles is seeking a Plant Technician I to support water treatment plant operations, monitor equipment, perform basic QA/QC tasks, and assist in maintaining laboratory data. Under general supervision, you will read gauges, adjust process parameters, and report maintenance needs.

Candidates should have a 1-year certificate or equivalent experience, basic math, and valid Louisiana driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Good knowledge of basic mathematics.
• Ability to read and operate various instruments and machinery as noted above, make chemical tests, interpret results and make reports.
• Good knowledge of laboratory equipment and techniques.
• Knowledge of pumps, electric motors, valves and other mechanical equipment.
• Good physical stamina, manual dexterity, eye-hand-foot coordination, and willingness to follow oral and written procedures.
• Good computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Operate sewage plant equipment and machinery and monitor system performance.
• Check gauges, take readings, and adjust parameters to improve readings.
• Lubricate motors and observe temperatures; adjust heat exchangers.
• Assist in QA/QC tasks and report data to EPA and health agencies.
• Prepare reports and file work performed; report repairs and maintenance needs.
• Assist in training Technician Helpers.
• Complete other assigned duties.
