Job summary

East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) seeks an entry-level Engineering Designer I in the Wastewater Drafting Unit. The role focuses on CAD/BIM design drafting for complex facilities, field reconnaissance, and documentation of wastewater assets, pipelines, and related systems.

You will work under engineers and project staff, performing drafting tasks, site observations, and coordination to ensure accurate drawings and models across several disciplines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in designing, drafting, mapping, or field recording of pipeline, facilities, or water/wastewater treatment system installations.
• Must possess a valid California driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record.
• Must be able to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
• Must possess physical characteristics to perform duties, including climbing hills and traversing rough terrain; overtime willingness.

Responsibilities

• Using CAD/BIM systems (AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D, Plant 3D, MicroStation, etc.) to draft/design wastewater facilities or rehabilitation projects under engineers’ guidance.
• Field investigation and documentation of existing and new wastewater assets.
• Prepare civil plans and profiles for interceptors, storm drain, sanitary sewer, access roads, embankments, and other pipelines.
• Calculate earthwork quantities and hydraulic calculations for drainage and piping systems.
• Create facility models and drawings using EBMUD standards and approved CADD/BIM tools.
• Provide drafting support for engineering design and construction and manage drafting project responsibilities.
