Job summary

Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. is hiring an entry level Transportation Planner to join our Transportation practice supporting Virginia clients. The role covers multi-modal corridor planning, asset and fleet management, and service improvement planning, under a project manager or senior planner.

You will collect data, analyze, and help prepare decisions and reports. The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree in a related field, strong analytical and communication skills, and experience with GIS

Responsibilities

  • Deliver a range of transportation planning and engineering projects as part of the Transportation practice.
  • Assist in development and management of corridor studies, mobility plans, and service development plans.
  • Collect and analyze data, and prepare studies to support decisions on transportation systems, policies, and standards.
  • Attend project meetings and coordinate with teams, consultants, and clients.
  • Participate in stakeholder engagement activities, including meetings and workshops.
  • Prepare reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations.
  • Provide support to planning staff as needed.

We are hiring an entry level Transportation Planner to join the Transportation practice supporting Virginia clients. The planners on our team work on a variety of tasks, from asset and fleet management plans to multi-modal corridor planning, to helping agencies improve service plans, operations, and infrastructure. We are looking for team members to help us deliver a range of statewide and multi-modal transportation planning projects. The candidate will work under the direction of a project manager or senior planner.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of the Transportation practice to deliver a range of transportation planning and engineering projects.
  • Assist in the development and management of corridor studies, feasibility studies, mobility plans, conceptual design documents, or service development plans for mobility projects.
  • Collect and analyze data, and prepare studies to support decisions on transportation systems, policies, and standards.
  • Attend project meetings and assist in coordination with different teams, consultants, and clients.
  • Participate in stakeholder engagement activities, including meetings and workshops.
  • Help prepare reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations.
  • Provide support to planning staff members as needed.

Here’s what you’ll need

  • Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, policy, Geography, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong analytical, conceptual, communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work and thrive in a team environment to develop engineering drawings and documents

Ideally, you’ll also have:

  • Excellent technical writing with the ability to develop work plans and document technical discussions.
  • Experience with GIS
  • Ability to deal with large datasets, sort through large amounts of data, and create visualizations.
  • Course work related to transportation.

The base salary range for this position is $60,100.00 to $90,000.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
