Job summary

AEP is seeking an entry-level Dispatcher Worker in New Albany, OH to support the transmission system's efficient operation under supervision. You will monitor voltages, real and reactive power, and coordinate with the AEP SCC and neighboring utilities to maintain reliability.

This role requires a two-year technical degree or equivalent experience, a valid driver's license, and a 12-hour rotating shift schedule that includes nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• Entry-level candidates should have a two-year technical degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field.
• High School and 2 years of experience in a position that demonstrates the ability to operate a power system.
• Valid state driver license.

Responsibilities

• Assist in monitoring and regulating system voltage levels and real/Reactive power flows for the transmission system with AEP SCC directives.
• Assist in real-time operation of the AEP transmission system in coordination with AEP SCC and neighboring utilities.
• Assist in real-time operation of distribution equipment inside the station fence in coordination with regional distribution dispatch centers.
• Prepare basic switching orders listing switching steps and safety tagging for removing equipment from service for maintenance or construction.
• Assist in directing switching operations under emergency conditions to restore service safely and quickly.
• Maintain a log of events and transactions related to facility operation.
• Observe and assist in operating the SCADA system and related functions.
• Monitor metering and communications facilities and report malfunctions.
• Monitor weather information system for severe weather and notify proper personnel.
• Record station entry/exit activity.
