Job summary

Mercy Health's Springfield Regional Medical Center seeks a Surgical Assistant to join a compassionate, patient-centered team. The role supports surgeons during procedures under provider supervision, with focus on learning and growth in an entry-level position.

You will perform sterile technique, assist with positioning, prep, and instrument handling while maintaining safety and confidentiality in line with hospital policies. Applicable certifications and one year healthcare experience preferred.

Qualifications

• BLS Basic Life Support certification is preferred and must be obtained prior to direct patient care.
• Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) or equivalent certification is required.
• One year health care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs surgical hand scrub, gowning, and gloving per policy.
• Routinely acts as first or second assistant on cases and supports sterile technique.
• Checks instruments for proper working order and assists with counts.
• Assists with OR case preparation using surgeon’s preference list for equipment placement.
• Assists with patient positioning, skin prepping, and draping; supports wound closure and dressings.
