Job summary

WSP in Tyler, TX is seeking an Early Career Electrical Engineer to join our Small Utility Services Team. You will assist with engineering design, analysis, and project execution across substations, transmission, and distribution systems, collaborating with experienced engineers and utility clients.

You will develop calculations, reports, drawings, and documentation while learning WSP standards and processes; participate in QA/QC and support multiple projects to meet schedules.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an ABET-accredited university; power systems emphasis preferred.
  • 0–2 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals and power system concepts.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for client and team interaction.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and technical documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with detailed design of low- to extra-high-voltage substations (physical substation design, Protection & Control).
  • Support system protection and relaying activities (substation relaying, transmission line relaying, distribution coordination studies).
  • Assist with design of overhead and underground distribution systems up to 25kV; design of transmission line projects up to 230kV.
  • Participate in QA/QC reviews of engineering deliverables; collaborate with engineers and clients to support project execution.
  • Develop technical calculations, drawings, and documentation per codes and client requirements.
  • Learn and apply WSP engineering standards and quality procedures.
  • Manage multiple projects and priorities while meeting schedules.
