Job summary

Ghafari Associates is seeking a Summer 2027 New Graduate Structural Designer in Dearborn, MI, under supervision by the Manager of Structural Engineering. You will apply engineering fundamentals to design structural framing systems at an entry level and support day-to-day project tasks.

The role emphasizes field verification, construction documents, and coordination with disciplines to ensure design intent and compliance with relevant codes. EIT preferred; internship experience valued.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field required.
Master’s program in field of engineering preferred.
Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred.
Engineer in Training (EIT) License preferred.

Responsibilities

With direction and assistance, formulate design and/or analysis of structural framing systems and perform necessary calculations.
Conduct field measuring and checking at construction site to verify existing conditions.
With direction and assistance, prepare construction documents and communicate with other disciplines to produce a well-coordinated set of construction documents.
With direction and assistance, coordinate with other disciplines for clash detection and load determination.
With direction and assistance, review shop-drawing submittals to assure design intent is met.
Maintain project files containing project calculations, correspondence, appropriate reference material, and other items.
Perform related duties as assigned.
