Job summary

GBMC HealthCare in Towson, MD is seeking a Sterile Processing trainee to learn under supervision how to handle, decontaminate, assemble, sterilize, and organize surgical instruments and prepared goods.

Training includes completing 400 practicum hours within three months, advancing toward independent work with Infection Control standards, and preparation for CRCST certification; GBMC offers competitive pay, benefits, and a supportive work environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Successful completion of didactic portion of Sterile Processing Program.
• Provisional CRCST Certification (HSPA) required or pursued.
• Ability to follow directions and complete tasks.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and support surgical team.

Responsibilities

• Learn layout and functions of the sterile processing department (Decontamination, prep and pack, case carts, assembly, sterilization).
• Understand major processes: decontamination, sterilization, sterile storage, assembly, case cart picking, testing.
• Instrument handling, inspection, and identifying missing or malfunctioning parts.
• Assist in cleaning instruments and assembling case carts.
• Assist in documenting processed loads and maintaining inventory.
• Support infection control standards and maintain unit cleanliness.
