Job summary

Dover Fueling Solutions (DFS) is seeking a Fabrication Team Lead in Austin, TX. You will lead a team operating state-of-the-art sheet metal fabrication equipment, including CNC laser and robotics, while driving quality, safety, and continuous improvement across the line.

In this hands-on role you will own KPI boards, mentor operators, and collaborate with maintenance and quality teams to ensure smooth operations and on-time downstream assembly.

Job Description

The Team Captain will lead a team of operators running a new state-of-the-art automated and manual sheet metal fabrication operation to supply downstream assembly processes. This role will require hands-on understanding and operation of fabrication equipment.

Job Responsibilities & Requirements

• Operate CNC laser machine to cut, shape, and engrave sheet metal parts
• Operate automated bend cells with robotics to form sheet metal parts
• Own the KPI Tier boards, as assigned, keeping them updated to support management team for strategic decisions
• Support the development and evaluation of personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function
• Support managers on the employee performance reviews and Growth Performance Dialog (GPD) conversations
• Collaborate with support teams to analyze and resolve work problems and drive continuous improvement
• Take the lead in resolving quality issues and problems
• Own the 6S program (organization of tooling and workstations) in assigned area
• Foster an environment that empowers and holds employees accountable for maintaining a safe work environment
• Monitor, enforce, and champion all PPE and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) standards
• Champion the company's vision, mission and culture characteristics in every action and decision

Technical Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor automated sheet metal fabrication equipment
• Perform first-level troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and process issues
• Perform equipment changeovers and setup verification
• Perform first-level maintenance and preventative maintenance tasks
• Work with Maintenance department to ensure all production machines are repaired and running properly
• Escalate complex equipment failures appropriately
• Assist maintenance during major repairs
• Verify machine calibration and tooling condition
• Optimize machine uptime and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
• Perform product quality verification using measuring equipment
• Interpret production schedules and work instructions
• Assist with new product launches and process validation

Quality Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with quality standards
• Perform first-piece and in-process inspections
• Identify non-conforming material
• Initiate and escalation containment protocols
• Support root cause investigations
• Drive corrective actions
• Assist with creation and maintenance of accurate production documentation

Safety Responsibilities

• Promote a zero-incident culture
• Ensure compliance with PPE requirements
• Perform safety inspections
• Report hazards immediately
• Participate in incident investigationsMaintain clean and organized work areas using 6S principles
• Follow lock-out-tag-out (LOTO) standards

Continuous Improvement Responsibilities

• Identify process improvement opportunities
• Participate in Lean Manufacturing initiatives
• Support Kaizen events
• Reduce downtime and waste
• Improve workflow efficiency
• Recommend equipment improvements
