Job summary

UT Health San Antonio is seeking an entry-level Hospital - Clinical Lab Assistant to support phlebotomy, specimen processing, and client inquiries in the Medical Arts & Research Center. You will perform venipuncture, document samples, and assist with waived testing under supervision.

The role requires attention to detail, teamwork, and compliance with laboratory safety standards. Work schedule is Monday–Friday, 8am–5pm, with occasional location float as needed.

Qualifications

• Phlebotomy experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
• Ability to perform venipuncture and capillary collection.
• Accuracy in labeling and documenting specimens.
• Familiarity with waived testing procedures is a plus.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Knowledge of lab safety and infection control protocols.

Responsibilities

• Performs venipuncture and capillary puncture to collect blood specimens.
• Receives and accession specimens into the LIS.
• Prepares and aliquots specimens for tests per protocols.
• Maintains inventory of laboratory supplies.
• Provides information on specimen collection and lab procedures.
• Addresses inquiries and escalates complex issues.
• Ensures quality control and QA measures are followed.
• Assists in preparation and setup of equipment and instruments.
• Ensures proper specimen transport within the lab.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
