Job summary

Sparus Holdings is seeking a Level 1 P&C Relay Technician to assist with installation, testing, maintenance and troubleshooting of protection and control relays in substations and power systems. This entry-level role supports senior technicians to ensure reliable operation of critical electrical infrastructure.

You will read schematics, record test data, follow safety standards (NERC, IEEE) and help maintain equipment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics Technology, or a related field preferred, or equivalent military experience.
• Basic understanding of electrical principles, AC/DC circuits, and power systems.
• Familiarity with common electrical testing equipment (e.g., multimeters, ammeters) is a plus.
• Ability to read and comprehend technical manuals and diagrams.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and have a clean driving record.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in various weather conditions and environments (e.g., substations, industrial settings).
• Successful completion of a background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Assist senior technicians with the installation, wiring, and commissioning of various types of protection and control relays (e.g., overcurrent, differential, distance) and related equipment.
• Perform basic functional checks and verification of relay settings under direct supervision.
• Aid in routine maintenance activities, including visual inspections, cleaning, and minor repairs of P&C equipment.
• Support troubleshooting efforts for relay-related issues, including identifying faulty components and verifying wiring integrity.
• Collect and record test data accurately and meticulously.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and relay elementary diagrams.
• Adhere to all safety protocols, company policies, and industry standards (e.g., NERC, IEEE).
• Maintain tools and test equipment in good working condition.
• Participate in training and development programs to enhance technical skills and knowledge.
• Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding project status and technical issues.
