Job summary

Serco is seeking an Entry level Engineering Technician to support U.S. Navy operations in Chesapeake, Virginia. The role involves assembling electromechanical and electronic assemblies, installing wiring, testing circuits, and performing maintenance on shipboard electrical systems.

You will follow blueprints, work with electrical gear, and ensure safety protocols. Travel up to 10% to nearby sites may be required. A Secret clearance and OSHA certification are highly valued.

Qualifications

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to access shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS) and pass background/drug screening.
  • OSHA certification is required.
  • Familiarity with shipboard electrical work and NAVSEA standards.

Responsibilities

  • Install and repair wiring, fixtures, and equipment aboard ships and in shipyard facilities.
  • Follow blueprints and wiring diagrams.
  • Install conduit to bulkheads and mount components using hand tools.
  • Strip insulation, solder ends to terminals.
  • Connect power-supply circuits to radio, radar, sonar and other electronics.
  • Test electrical characteristics using meters and phase indicators.
  • Troubleshoot electrical equipment and circuits and perform maintenance or replacements.
  • Handle generators, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers and distribution panels.
  • Maintain inventories of electrical spare parts and requisition replacements as needed.
  • Work up to 50 lbs; 80% of shift involves carrying/pushing/pulling up to 40 lbs.
