Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Mechanical Engineer 1 to join our Boston office in 2027. This is an exciting opportunity for an early career engineer to work on complex and meaningful projects, contributing to the planning, design, and delivery of innovative building and infrastructure solutions.

Under supervision, you will design HVAC and plumbing systems, review drafts for regulatory compliance, and help develop technical papers. Travel up to 10% may be required as project needs evolve.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Architectural or Chemical Engineering, or in Engineering Technology or related discipline.
• 0 years. Domestic and/or international travel may be required.
• Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Responsibilities

• Under direct supervision, creates engineering designs including HVAC systems master planning & studies; HVAC & Plumbing systems; mechanical systems (co-generation); sustainability/energy efficiency/renewable energy/green buildings; etc. of basic complexity to meet client project requirements.
• Reviews draft designs for compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
• Ensures that firm policies and practices are followed on all designs.
• Performs site reviews and studies, as needed, to ensure designs are aligned with location specifications.
• Updates design requirements as necessary.
• Contributes to firm's TKM by developing white papers and technical design documentation of new or special case designs, studies, etc.
• Submits technical papers and designs for publishing to technical journals.
• Performs other duties as required.
• May create or work with a team to create a poster or other presentation material for a conference.
