Job summary

CMI Group in Phoenix, AZ seeks an Entry Level Machinist to train on MV1100 vertical machining centers, interpret drawings, and perform precision inspections. Training is provided and workers must be able to work day or night shifts.

You will learn CNC practices, GD&T interpretation, and how to document results per AS9100/ISO standards while maintaining productivity and a clean work area.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; trade school acceptable.
• Completion of a certified machinist or manufacturing technology program preferred.
• Learning AS9100 or ISO 9001 to be certified at our facility.

Responsibilities

• Operate MV1100 vertical machining center and select tools.
• Interpret engineering drawings and GD&T requirements.
• Perform first article and in-process inspections using calipers, micrometers, and CMMS.
• Identify and resolve machining issues, tool wear, and tolerance deviations.
• Document production and inspection results per AS9100/ISO standards.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace.
• Collaborate with quality, engineering, and production teams to resolve issues.

Shift: Day shift or Night Shift

Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship or Valid Permanent Resident status is required.

You will learn to:

• Independently operate the MV1100 vertical machining center, including tool selection
• Make machine offset adjustments as needed
• Interpret Mot’s engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T specifications
• Perform first article and in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, CMMS)
• Identify and resolve machining issues, tool wear, and tolerance deviations
• Maintain a clean and organized work area
• Monitor and maintain machine productivity
• Collaborate with quality, engineering, and production teams to resolve production challenges
• Accurately document production and inspection results in accordance with AS9100 or ISO standards
• Adhere to company policies and procedures, including ITAR and other compliance regulations

Basic Skills & Abilities:

Will learn:

• CNC machining practices and gain experience on MV1100 or similar Mazak vertical machines
• Read and interpret Mot drawings and GD&T requirements
• Use a wide-range of precision measuring tools
• Familiar with Fanuc or Mazatrol controls (depending on machine configuration)

Education:

• Minimum High School Diploma/GED or trade school
• Completion of a certified machinist or manufacturing technology program preferred
• Learning AS9100 or ISO 9001 to be certified at our facility

Physical Requirements:

• Physical Demands: Must be able to stand for the majority of the work shift, reach overhead, and bend to the floor. – exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and\or exert 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and\or – exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
• Visual Acuity: Ability to detect surface defects, tool wear, or measurement deviations - good near vision for reading drawings, measurements, and digital readouts, and computer screens
• Must tolerate exposure to machining dust, oils, and moderate noise levels in a manufacturing environment
