Job summary

CMI Group in Phoenix, AZ is seeking an entry-level CNC operator to join our aerospace manufacturing team. You will train on state-of-the-art vertical machining centers, learn to read blueprints and GD&T, and contribute to first article and in-process inspections. Paid training is provided.

You must be able to stand for long shifts, tolerate dust and noise, and have a high school diploma. U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status is required, and you will work with QA, engineering and

  • Willingness to learn and follow safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Learn to operate the MV1100 vertical machining center and select tools.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T specifications.
  • Perform first article and in-process inspections using calipers, micrometers, CMMS.
  • Identify and resolve machining issues and tool wear.
  • Document production and inspection results per AS9100/ISO.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.

Key Responsibilities:

You will learn to:

  • Independently operate the MV1100 vertical machining center, including tool selection
  • Make machine offset adjustments as needed
  • Interpret Mot’s engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T specifications
  • Perform first article and in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, CMMS)
  • Identify and resolve machining issues, tool wear, and tolerance deviations
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Monitor and maintain machine productivity
  • Collaborate with quality, engineering, and production teams to resolve production challenges
  • Accurately document production and inspection results in accordance with AS9100 or ISO standards
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures, including ITAR and other compliance regulations

Basic Skills & Abilities:

Will learn:

  • CNC machining practices and gain experience on MV1100 or similar Mazak vertical machines
  • Read and interpret Mot drawings and GD&T requirements
  • Use a wide-range of precision measuring tools
  • Familiar with Fanuc or Mazatrol controls (depending on machine configuration)

Education:

  • Minimum High School Diploma/GED or trade school
  • Completion of a certified machinist or manufacturing technology program preferred
  • Learning AS9100 or ISO 9001 to be certified at our facility

Physical Requirements:

  • Physical Demands: Must be able to stand for the majority of the work shift, reach overhead, and bend to the floor. – exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and\or exert 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and\or – exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
  • Visual Acuity: Ability to detect surface defects, tool wear, or measurement deviations - good near vision for reading drawings, measurements, and digital readouts, and computer screens
  • Must tolerate exposure to machining dust, oils, and moderate noise levels in a manufacturing environment
