Job summary

City of Safford is seeking an entry-level landfill operator to work in the Public Works landfill division. Under general supervision, you will operate heavy equipment, monitor waste intake, and assist with scalehouse and related tasks.

You will help ensure safe, efficient landfill operations and maintain records as required. Ideal candidates have a high school diploma, 2 years in heavy equipment or landfill work, and a valid AZ Class B license with tanker endorsement within a year.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• At least 2 years in heavy equipment operation or landfill work.
• Valid Arizona Class B license with Tanker endorsement within 12 months of hire.
• Ability to obtain MSW Management Facility Waste Screening certification within 6 months of being hired.
• This is a safety sensitive position with drug and alcohol testing.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment such as scrapers, bulldozers and loaders.
• Perform pre-operation inspections and report issues.
• Conduct preventative maintenance and report wear.
• Compile daily equipment reports and track solid waste intake.
• Assist with Scalehouse operations during emergencies.
• Participate in training to cover Scalehouse operations.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
