Job summary

The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, CO invites applications for a full-time, entry-level Histotechnologist in the Department of Pathology. This 1.0 FTE position processes whole mount prostate specimens, mapping biopsies, and other histology cases in the Histology Lab.

Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in a biological field and histotechnologist certification; preferred immunohistochemistry certification and experience with staining systems and lab data

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biological sciences, nutrition, nursing, health, human services, psychology, counseling, social work, or a related field.
  • Histotechnician or Histotechnologist Certification (HT/HTL/ASCP) or eligible for certification with certification within 2 years.
  • Combination of education and related experience may substitute for degree on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

  • Process whole mount prostate specimens and prostate mapping biopsies in the Histology Lab.
  • Perform paraffin embedding, microtomy sectioning, staining and coverslipping.
  • Conduct gross description and dissection of prostate tissue.
  • Manually track patient tissue samples and maintain inventory.
  • Adhere to disposal, cleaning, and maintenance requirements in the lab.
  • Support compliance and operational standards within the Histology sub-speciality.

Job Summary

The Department of Pathology is excited to recruit a full-time (1.0 FTE) entry-level Histotechnologist at the rank of Healthcare Entry Professional. The entry-level histotechnologist will process whole mount prostate, prostate mapping biopsies, and other types of specimens received in the Histology Subspeciality Laboratory. Specific duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Technical - 60%
  • Gross description and dissection of whole prostate specimens, prostate mapping biopsy specimens.
  • CMOCO only biopsy tissue samples.
  • Reprocessing of FFPI tissue samples for Electron Microscopy.
  • Paraffin Embedding of large format and biopsy tissue samples.
  • Microtomy sectioning of tissue samples.
  • Staining and cover slipping of tissue samples
  • Administrative - 20%
  • Manual tracking of patient tissue samples.
  • Maintenance of supply inventory.
  • Compliance and operational - 20%
  • Cleaning and organization of workstations
  • Disposal of biological waste.
  • Changing solutions in tissue processors.
  • Adherence to all operational maintenance requirements.
Work Location

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in biological science, nutrition, nursing, health, human services, psychology, counseling, social work, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.

  • Histotechnician or Histotechnologist Certification (HT, HTL, ASCP), or eligible for certification. If eligible, but uncertified, certification must be obtained within 2 year of hire date.

A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. Please be advised that this position is not eligible now or in the future for visa sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Immunohistochemistry Certification (QIHC, ASCP).
  • Experience using laboratory equipment such as complex machinery and staining systems.
  • Experience calculating lab results and data using math and analytical skills.
  • Experience with developing reports, spreadsheets and databases using Microsoft Office software.
  • Experience entering data into an electronic information system.
  • Experience purchasing and maintaining lab supplies.
  • Experience cleaning and maintaining laboratories and lab equipment.
  • Experience working within an educational medical lab environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
Conditions of Employment

Enroll in and maintain Histology Certification through ASCP's Certification Maintenance Program.

Anticipated Pay Range

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $60,222 to $76,602.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
