Job summary

The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is seeking an entry-level Histotechnologist (Healthcare EntryProfessional) in the Department of Pathology. This full-time role processes prostate specimens and related samples in the Histology Subspeciality Laboratory, with duties spanning technical, administrative, and compliance tasks.

The position is onsite in Aurora, CO, requiring adherence to lab safety and accreditation standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biological science, nutrition, nursing, health, human services, psychology, counseling, social work, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • Histotechnician or Histotechnologist Certification (HT, HTL, ASCP), or eligible for certification. If eligible, but uncertified, certification must be obtained within 2 year of hire date.
  • A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Responsibilities

  • Technical - 60%: Gross description and dissection of whole prostate specimens, prostate mapping biopsy specimens.
  • CMOCO only biopsy tissue samples.
  • Reprocessing of FFPI tissue samples for Electron Microscopy.
  • Paraffin Embedding of large format and biopsy tissue samples.
  • Microtomy sectioning of tissue samples.
  • Staining and cover slipping of tissue samples.
  • Administrative – 20%: Manual tracking of patient tissue samples.
  • Maintenance of supply inventory.
  • Compliance and operational – 20%: Cleaning and organization of workstations.
  • Disposal of biological waste.
  • Changing solutions in tissue processors.
  • Adherence to all operational maintenance requirements.

Job Summary

The Department of Pathology is excited to recruit a full-time (1.0FTE) entry-level Histotechnologist at the rank of Healthcare EntryProfessional. The entry-level histotechnologist will process wholemount prostate, prostate mapping biopsies, and other types ofspecimens received in the Histology Subspeciality Laboratory.Specific duties will include, but are not limited to:

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical - 60%

Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located inAurora, CO.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in biological science, nutrition, nursing,health, human services, psychology, counseling, social work, or adirectly related field from an accredited institution.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. Please be advised that this position is not eligible now or in thefuture for visa sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Immunohistochemistry Certification (QIHC, ASCP).
  • Experience using laboratory equipment such as complex machineryand staining systems.
  • Experience calculating lab results and data using math andanalytical skills.
  • Experience with developing reports, spreadsheets and databasesusing Microsoft Office software.
  • Experience entering data into an electronic informationsystem.
  • Experience purchasing and maintaining lab supplies.
  • Experience cleaning and maintaining laboratories and labequipment.
  • Experience working within an educational medical labenvironment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing andorally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationshipswith employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.

Enroll in and maintain HistologyCertification through ASCP's Certification MaintenanceProgram.

Anticipated Pay Range

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for thisposition has been established as $60,222 to $76,602.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents theUniversity's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range ofpossible compensation at the time of posting. This position may beeligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
