Job summary

Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc. (Con Edison) is hiring a General Utility Worker L1-2 in the Bronx gas operations district. This entry-level role supports gas distribution maintenance, inspections, and emergency response with strong mechanical aptitude and customer-facing duties.

The position requires a High School Diploma or GED, a valid driver's license, and a commitment to safety. Physical tasks, outdoor work, and potential overtime are expected; certifications in First Aid/CPR

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Comfortable performing physically demanding tasks outdoors.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Willingness to obtain First Aid/CPR and Bloodborne Pathogens certifications.
• Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights.
• Strong safety focus and adherence to guidelines.
• Construction experience is a plus; mechanical/electrical aptitude preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interact with customers while delivering safe, quality service.
• Follow safety policies and environmental guidelines; this is a safety-sensitive role.
• Operate a motor vehicle and perform field maintenance tasks.
• Work indoors/outdoors across diverse weather, with overtime and rotating shifts.
• Support gas distribution maintenance, inspections, and emergency response.
• Learn to read blueprints and apply them to field tasks.
